The Tele-cardiology Supported 5G Platform Enhances Island Healthcare Quality

Location:Taitung, Taiwan

Application: 5G Tele-cardiology Supported Platform

Applied Product: BriteMED® 12-Lead Portable ECG

There are several beautiful offshore islands around East and South of Taiwan. They are also the vacation hot spots for local and oversea tourists. However, those offshore islands have been struggling in medical resource shortage . Due to the outlying locations, the challenges of medical service are lack of medical professionals and limited budget for medical equipment. The residents spend time and money traveling back and forth to Taiwan when requiring further examination and treatment . Thanks to the development of 5G telemedicine system, residents in those offshore islands now can benefit from it to get instant medical service.

5G Telemedicine Platform Facilitates Remote Diagnosis Service

One of the major telecom companies in Taiwan has launched the 5G telemedicine platform in 2021 for a diverse service scope , applied to the offshore islands of East Taiwan as the starting point. Considering there are insufficient specialty clinic appointments for cardiology, ophthalmology, otorhinolaryngology, dermatology at these areas, the 5G telemedicine platform connects local district health centers and the hospital located 100 kilometer away in nearby counties to let patients make clinic appointments with specialty doctors . The tele-conferencing and tele-consultation are real-time executed during the process by the 5G infrastructure , bringing quality diagnosis service and quickly deciding follow-up medical treatment for residents in offshore islands.

The first Tele-Cardiology Clinic Appointment In Taiwan

This 5G telemedicine platform also includes remote cardiology service, which is the first remote cardiology clinic appointment in Taiwan. The BriteMED 12-Lead Portable ECG is proudly applied in this pilot-run telemedicine project. In the public district health centers of Green Island and Lanyu Island, patients take ECG measurement and ECG data is transmitting through 5G network to the cardiology specialty doctors in Taitung MacKay Memorial Hospital. The quality real-time 12-lead waveforms and sharable ECG reports provide remote cardiology doctors with important reference to issue the prescription or if further inspection is required. The PC based design links the portable ECG to the PC software by USB cable, not only manages ECG reports electronically but also provides power by USB, saving the cost and maintenance trouble of batteries.

Celebrate Humanity with Technology

By the approval of telemedicine healthcare policy in Taiwan, this pilot-run project creates an important milestone for other 5G platforms set for future telemedicine services. We are glad the BriteMED 12-Lead Portable ECG can join the 1st tele-cardiology clinic appointment. Cooperating with telecom company to be part of 5G telemedicine service gives us more confidence about the ECG IoT feature as our design core value. ”I feel honored that our portable 12-lead ECG participates in the 1st tele-cardiology appointment and it indeed streamlines regular ECG inspection workflow. 5G infrastructure helps build up the diverse telehealth service based on this platform. We will cooperate with more telemedicine partners to duplicate this model and share the benefit with more patients living in rural area and offshore islands.” Steven said, the domestic sales manager of BriteMED.
